Kenosha (/kəˈnoʊʃə/[9][10][11]) is a city in and the county seat of Kenosha County, Wisconsin, United States.[12] Kenosha is on the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan. As of the 2020 census the population was 99,986, which made it the fourth-largest city in Wisconsin and the fourth-largest city on Lake Michigan. Although closer to Milwaukee (about 40 miles) than Chicago (about 66 miles), Kenosha is part of the United States Census Bureau’s Chicago combined statistical area (CSA)[13] and metropolitan statistical area.

Kenosha was once a center of industrial activity and a Chicago satellite city; it was home to large automotive factories which fueled its economy.[14] Like other Rust Belt cities, the loss of these factories in the late 20th century caused it to gradually transition into a hub for the services-based economy of today, although the city did not experience massive population decline. Today, Kenosha is a bedroom community within the Chicago and Milwaukee metro areas.[15] In recent years, the city and surrounding county have benefited from increased job growth,[16] although ongoing gentrification has caused an increase in housing and rental costs.[17] It is home to the headquarters of the Fortune 1000 tool manufacturer Snap-on Inc., as well as the clothing company Jockey International.[18] Kenosha is home to multiple educational institutions including the University of Wisconsin–Parkside, Carthage College, and Gateway Technical College. Residents of the city are called Kenoshans.[19]
